COMPLETE NEWS REPORT

THE UNHEARD ISSUE

Childism is a common issue which many people are unaware of. It is when young people get treated differently because of their age or stereotypes given by the media. We carried out a survey aimed at secondary school children and found 82% had been a victim of childism. We interviewed a café and a newsagent close to a school to see what they thought of the issue and if they felt the need to treat the pupils differently.
We also interviewed two school girls who said that they felt they were treated unfairly sometimes. Members of our group tried to get comments regarding this issue from major chain stores but they were all unwilling to give comments and have them broadcasted. Overall, this is an important subject which the public needs to become more aware of and we hope to have opened your eyes to childism.

REVEALING THE OYSTER CARD SECRETS
Oyster1

Oyster2 Many year 8 students have been asked to complete a survey about Oyster Card fares and prices. During the investigation, we have learnt that the majority of participants were unaware of the firing prices; even though 82% of the students agreed that the expenses were simply too much.

65 pence is now the official price of Oyster Card tickets, and we are hoping that these prices freeze for as long as possible. Once the students were aware of this matter, we asked them about how they could have been using their Oyster Card money if it were to be free. Most responses related to buying more chocolates and spending more time on clothes shopping.

NATIONAL PORTRAIL GALLERY EXHIBITION

Renowned British artists, The Singh Twins, have opened a new exhibit, called Contemporary Connections, at the National Portrait Gallery. This is the first non-western exhibition to be displayed at the gallery. Reporters Fazana and Flora travelled to the gallery to interview exhibition curator, Helen Whiteoak.

LANGUAGES IN SCHOOLS

Olanguages The government wants pupils to lean Mandarin. We set out to find out if pupils would like to learn another language. We interviewed our head of languages to get another view point. We conducted a survey on 30 pupils. The majority of students said that they liked learning languages. Over 50% would like to learn languages from other continents. However, just under half said that they would be keen to study Mandarin. This shows that Mr Ed Balls would have to have a plan to encourage more children to be positive about learning more languages and specifically Mandarin.

MISSING CHILDREN

Missing children is an important issue that St Marylebone students dont think gets enough attention. We think more needs to be done to curb this issue.

ST MARYLEBONE ROAD TRAFFIC

The Marylebone High Street Road Junction issue. A recent survey conducted by School Report Students has discovered that eighty two percent of students claimed that they have seen a car jmp a red light at this junction. As a result of their enquiries, Westminster City Council has promised to take action regarding the matter.
