In the 2008-2009 Academic year, and for the third year running, St Marylebone was awarded High Performing Specialist Status by the DCSF and Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. Once again St Marylebone had achieved excellent standards in examination results and was one of the top performing Specialist Schools in the country. As a result the school was awarded a third specialism of Special Educational Needs (Communication and Interaction). St Marylebone were delighted to achieve this specialism which highlights the school’s ongoing commitment and effective and innovative practice towards removing barriers to learning for all students, including those with Special Educational Needs.
Communication and Interaction are already at the heart of much of the school’s work; these skills are now being highlighted and developed alongside our other two specialisms: Performing Arts and Maths and Computing. We are also developing the already forged partnerships with Westminster’s two special schools, College Park and Queen Elizabeth II and improving and extending our provision for students in our Learning Support Centre.
Our most significant development since gaining SEN specialist status is the development of a post 16 Learning Support Centre in partnership with College Park Special School. This centre is one of the first of its kind in Westminster and is housed in our 6th form centre at Blandford Street. The centre, which opened in September 2010, accommodates post 16 students from College Park who follow a Personalised Foundation Learning Programme alongside our mainstream students.
